Our Story - Sowing the Seeds of Success

The concept of Wisdom’s Wellspring was born in 2009 after Rev. Alyce Parmer had a conversation with a young woman with big dreams in a dire situation.  Rev. Parmer was aware of numerous ministries that worked to address immediate and urgent needs, but none that could provide guidance and assistance to break the cycle of dependency living.  The conversation with that young woman spurred Rev. Parmer into conversations with other to develop a program that could provide young woman with a hand up so they could live up to their potential. Wisdom’s Wellspring was established as a not-for-profit corporation in June 2010.

After five years of outreach, development, and research we opened our pilot facility in 2014 at the former parsonage for Tallahassee Heights United Methodist Church. Wisdom’s Wellspring is an ecumenical ministry that operates as an Advanced Special Ministry of the Nortwest District of the United Methodist Church.  Through 2021, the ministry was led, conducted, and supported by many individuals, churches, and partner organizations, who desire to provide transforming power to disadvantaged women.

Facility Transition

As with many organizations, the operations of Wisdom’s Wellspring and our facility were deeply impacted by Covid. As a consequence, in March 2021, the Board made the difficult decision to close the residential facility we worked so hard to build and for so long had thrived.

Thanks be to Board Member and Vice-Chair Pam King for all her transition hard work including quickly helped locate another very worthy not-for-profit organization to take over our old Tallahassee Heights United Methodist Church (THUMC) facility.

Humble House Tallahassee opened its doors at the residential facility on June 4, 2021. Their discipleship and transitional program is a long-term residential (6 - 12 month average) program that focuses on all aspects of recovery... physical, social, psychological, emotional and spiritual.

Humble House emphasizes biblical discipleship and complete accountability, along with many life skills classes. While in the program each client will be assigned a case manager, participate in mandatory classes including church services. Their goal is to disciple clients through the process of the transitioning phase of recovery and for clients to re-enter society as clean, sober, and successful members of our community.
